As follow up to their debut Hi, Lo And In Between, this Belgian duo attempt to further develop their electro sound with a new album, supposedly revered by the likes of Tiga, Mylo and Felix Da Housecat. Some evidence of that requires authenticating, as Heartcore is as dreary and inept a dance record as you’re likely to hear all year. A collection of 10 instrumental tracks aimed squarely at the dancefloor, Heartcore struggles to deliver a single memorable listening experience throughout – either that or this type of album completely fails to translate from dance floor to front room– although that would appear to be a fairly sympathetic statement. With each track sounding almost identically structured, Heartcore is awash with mid-paced 4x4 beats and escalating staccato acid squelches. Its repetitiveness is tangible and most of these tracks are about as subtle as a punch in the face - their numbing effect is certainly much the same. I’m really struggling to find anything of worth or originality here, Heartcore’s dirgy, bone dry digitalism is unreservedly soulless, it's Alco pop electro-dance for the mentally unchallenged. |
