Scandinavian downtempo/world music artists Bliss have been chosen to compile the second instalment of Platipus Record’s Big Freeze mix album. The four-piece band, hailing from Denmark, have released 3 albums to date and appear to be moving increasingly towards television and soundtrack work of late. They are themselves known for appearing on a multitude of compilation albums, with their blend of Western and African downtempo music, infused with classical sensibilities.

Big Freeze have certainly achieved what was no doubt requested by sticking to the Big Freeze blueprint, cherry picking a diverse collection of icy downtempo tunes; in themselves the very definition of 'chillout' – a terminology that seems so much more suitable within this context.

Split over two discs, contributions arrive from Charles Webster, Cantoma, Dubtribe Soundsystem, Trentemoller, A Reminiscent Drive, Mudd, and Kenneth Bager, with Bliss themselves adding a clutch of their own tunes.

Few of the contributions on Big Freeze Volume 2 stand head and shoulders above the rest. It’s a seamlessly mixed collection, with a few surprises embedded within its frosty blend of acoustic and electronic tracks, it’s soulful range occasionally warming the cockles. This will doubtless end up being one of 2008's classier compilations.
